1988-06-15 Every Week I Have a Strange Dream

EEG electroencephalophone used during a music ...Image via WikipediaEvery week I have a strange dream. It is different than normal dreams. I construct the components consciously, but when I put them together it is a mysterious process where all of the parts I assembled fit together in strange and unexpected ways. It becomes an unconscous creation of conscious elements, and in that way it is very much like a normal dream. The difference is that I get to share it acoustically with my listeners, and this trans-personal element is very much non-dreamlike.  Dream along with me!

No play list read this week, so I am not really sure what all is in here, I can identify some of it but not very much. Dreamy.

1988-06-08 Escape from Noise

Escape from NoiseImage via WikipediaNoise is everywhere. And in 1988, noise music was gaining in acoustic prominence as well. So, this program takes an opportunity to explore that new noise, and it leads to laughter, contemplation and an often odd coincidence of how noises come together. For the serious noise enthusiast only. Oh, and this is all sparked by the Negativland release "Escape from noise."

Music included: Negativland, Chrome, Masked Men, Tuxedomoon, Laibach, Coil, Virgin Prunes, Jackhammer Five, Nate Myer, Chris & Cosey, Cassiber, and a lot more.

Fallen angels in HellImage via WikipediaBob says, "Hello." You see, your head is 2/3rds of your problem. You need to get away from that, stop thinking, live in faith and send Bob some money. "It's a brand new day," sings Bob, Robert Tilton.  Music and voices are combined. All of this religious stuff, but we lead of with Monte Cazzaza's "Stairway to Hell" after Bob sings.

Music and voices included: Bob Tilton, Monte Cazzaza, Survival research Labs interviews, test Department, Zoviet France, Coil, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling,  Manufacture, A Split Second, Tuzedo Moon, Blaine L. 1988-05-25 Industrial Music

I really like this one.

Here it is. I had spent a lot of time investigating and experimenting with industrial music, and while things did change, this program indicated a sort of conceptual achievement in which I discovered what I wanted to do with it. I also stopped and talked about the music a bit more.

Music included:  Mnemonists, Art Barbecue, Esplendor Geometrico, 93 Current 93, Nurse with Wound, Zoviet France, Controlled Bleeding, Gerechtikeits Liga, Haters, Convulsive Trance, Obscure Japanese Monster movie,  PGR, Blackhouse, Princess Tiny Meat and more (of course).

It cannot be expressed or explained. It cannot be uttered. It can be suggested, but there is no precise form for it. Thus, this radio program.

Music included:
Who knows? Advice needs to be discovered, not delivered on a silver platter. Lots of found sound and such. Thanks especially to Nurse with Wound, Negativland, 93 Current 93 and Dennis Wygmans.

The Age of Stupid // Did Jesus Exist?Image by 666isMONEY ☮ ♥ & ☠ via FlickrNice promo for Phish show to benefit Vermont Reggae Festival in Ira Allen. I remember there was an ice storm that night and almost nobody showed up.

Lots of sound clips here from television evangelism and pentecostal outreach both in person and though the media. I got them from a couple of documentaries as well as from television broadcast. No real play list here, so let your imagination run wild.

Television evangelism was something that I was exploring with some intensity as a field of rhetorical expression during this period. There are, of course, other voices within this program.

Music includes: Acoustic Iatrogenesis, William S. Burroughs, Zoviet France, Hafler Trio, Residents, Psychic TV, Doctor Tuna & Commodity Fetish, Damon Edge, Minimal Man, Broken Gene Posse, Friends of Doctor Mabuse, Masked Men, Garage Monkey Surgery, Voice of Authority, Mnemonists and a lot of material I cannot now identify.

BlackhouseImage via WikipediaDrum beats are common on my programs, but these set a pattern to try and understand what their agenda is and what it is they mean. There may not be a clear answer, but we can enjoy the process of attempted discovery.  Yes, Satan can use drums for his purpose.

Music includes: Clan of Xymox, Hula,  Front 242, Sisters of Mercy, Negativland, Blackhouse, Cabaret Voltaire, Gerechtikeits Liga, Hunting Lodge, Palehead, Keith LeBlanc, Minimal Man, Ears to the Grindstone, Borghesia, Trisome 21 and a lot more.

1988-01-13 Found Sound

sound pollutionImage by mararie via FlickrAnother January sign up show and I was having a lot of fun exploring different kinds of sounds and their juxtaposition. As William S. Burroughs said, "When you cut into the present, the future leaks out." Thus, this program.  Snippets and collage, but also the Insect Musicians project by Graeme Revell. Also, watch out for the subliminal messages behind the music here.

This is not too abrupt a beginning, however, and intends to try and set a mood for morning, in my own demented way. Mostly continental and European.

Music includes: Edgar Froese, Hector Zazou, the Residents,  Jane Siberry, Chris & Cosey, Anna Pigale, SPK, Throbbing Gristle, Saqarra Dogs, Honeymoon Killers, Anna Domino, Isabelle Antenna, the french Impresisonists and a lot more.

Music included: Chris & Cosey, Severed Heads, Negativland, Clan of Xymox, Hula, Legendary Pink Dots, Acoustic Iatrogenesis, Blackhouse, Laibach, Hunting Lodge, Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Commodity Fetish, Teargarden, and a lot more.

To be popular, one must be a mediocrity.
The solution is the problem.
The solution kills the problem.
Blessed freak show.
Perception of realism, the banner unrelative.
Somebody must have the last word.
The symposium of sycophants tell us that best is not always simple but simple is always best.
Art is dead, long live the new machine art.
Tatlin.
Oh, Armoury Show.

1988-01-11 What Pure Pop Won't Carry

Luigi Russolo with his assistant Ugo Piatti an...Image via WikipediaPure Pop records has been very important in my musical growth through the years. But, although they have carried some impressively experimental music, they are still a store ando tend to stock normal music, although they have helped me special order some interesting stuff. But, there is a beyond to this. This program mostly carries music that Pure Pop won't carry, mostly imports. So, I went record shopping in Montreal and this is some of what I found. Of course, everything sounds better with a bit of television evangelism scattered over it.

Music included: Zoviet France, Graeme Revell and the Insect Musicians, and a lot of stuff that got cut off by the end of the tape when I was reading the play list. Oh well.
