1993-04-28 Subgenius

J. R. Image via WikipediaThis program investigates and exposes the Church of the Subgenius. We discuss its teachings and primary values. We are not responsible for mental or behavioral aberrations that may be caused by this broadcast. This is a combination of tapes, broadcasts, snippets, edits, songs written and performed by church members that serve as  soundtracks to the Subgenius experience.

There is no way to list everything that was put into this program. This dense packing of brain cells without proper coolant, like frop, may lead to the continued hearing of this broadcast even after it has stopped. Always emerge from the experience slowly.

1993-04-07 Crazy Dreams and High Ideals

What a Crazy DreamImage by striderp64 via FlickrLove that Mormon PSA at the beginning with all the punk influence. And a debate team PSA. A new On-U release and a chance to visit other related music types as Spring begins to get underway in Vermont.

Music included:
No playlist was read, so here is my best guess - On-U Sound System, Tackhead, System 01, Residents, Producers for Bob, Severed Heads, Andy Fairley, and a lot more I cannot now identify.

1993-03-10 Collusion

Stone ringfort on the island of Inishmaan, Ara...Image via WikipediaThis is a classic program of the kind of atmpsheric industrial sound I was putting together during this period. I have never really left it, as from time to time it seems to collect my thoughts and give me a lot of focus. Not too "in your face' and a lot of pieces that develop slowly but effectively. Only three groups here, but they have put out so much in this genre that mixing it together was a pleasure.

Music included: Controlled Bleeding, Zoviet France, Nocturnal Emissions, and all taken from multiple releases by each of these groups.

1993-03-03 Second Look

Hietalahdentori flea market, Helsinki, Finland.Image via WikipediaA look back at some cuts that had a lot of promise that I did not necessarily realize until a bit later. Nice to pack them together like that. It was also a frenetic pace this week that must tell me something about the pace of my life during that period. I guess you could say it was a brand new second hand experience.

Music included: BSides, Incubus, Angel Ice, Miss Lie, Modular Expansion, Ion, Producers for Bob, Sucking Chest Wound, Strong Heads, Technnomania, Robert Armani, Sons of Arqa, Consolidated, Negativland, Psychic TV,  and a lot more.

1993-02-17 Winter's Edge

Winter CalmPerched on the sharp edge of winter, the sounds and vibes of a cold and hard environment which is nevertheless alive comes pouring out of this program. The light is fast fading and the air is incredibly dry as well as sharp and cold. Music and sound to accentuate an atmosphere.

Music included: Residents, Nocturnal Emissions, Zoviet France, Marvin X & 174K2, Text Department, Autopsia, Controlled Bleeding and a lot more.

Venezuela Ecléctica (50 de 52 y 1/2)Image by NeoGaboX via FlickrJust a random week of me trying to put my feelings and perceptions into soundscapes. Nothing too obvious, lots of room for interpretations and a journey through different styles of current alternative musical presentations.

Music included: Jimi Hendrix, Zoviet France, Sucking Chest Wound, Residents, Severed Heads, Chumbawamba, Negativland, Ion, Tapebeatles, Bonzo Dog Band, Hafler Trio, Producers for Bob, Invisible Spike and a lot more.

1993-01-20 All On You and Me

On-U Sound RecordsImage via WikipediaAs you probably know, music from the On-U label has been one of my favorite acoustic categories. It was so good that selections from that label made it on to both sides of my radio show -- the Reggae and the experimental, in a fusion that I found very exciting. The use of production techniques and samples also made these songs very innovative at the time. They may not be so innovative now, but they still rock very hard and have an enduring political edge.

Musical assemblages include: Gary Clail and the On-U Sound System, Mark Stewart and the Maffia, Andy Fairley, Invisible Spike, Voice of Authority, Barmy Army, Tackhead, DJ Spike, and then a little non On-U with Kraftwerk.
