1997-08-21 Burroughs Bad Boy
William S. Burroughs has always been one of my favorite “bad boys.” He led a life that I cannot condone and would not want anyone to imitate. However, his insights and linguistic techniques are astoundingly revealing as well as highly entertaining. As he said about his method of “cut ups” (taking different texts, chopping them up and putting them back together), “When you cut into the present, the future leaks out.” This show was presented very soon after his death in 1997. It contains many of my favorite Burroughs pieces. I understand they put a glassine bag of heroin in his pocket just before he was buried. Bad boy.
